We are always looking for new members to join our lab who are interested in the tools and people involved in digital fabrication, accessibility, and haptics in mixed reality. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our work, we welcome individuals with diverse training and backgrounds, whether in science, engineering, design, or art. Prospective Ph.D. Students

📣 We are currently looking for Ph.D. students to join our lab in Fall 2025. The areas of focus include:

  • Sustainable making and prototyping
  • Embodied AI in accessibility
  • Novel haptics for mixed reality

You can apply through the Computer Science PhD Program, but note that a CS background is welcome but not necessary. Consider applying if you have reserach experience in any of the following areas: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computational design, materials, accessibility, AI/ML, perception, or haptics.


Master's Students at UMD

We're always looking for highly motivated students who are interested in the lab's research to work with us. You may do an independent study for course credit under CMSC798 if you are in CS (Master's Non-Thesis Research), or INST799 if you are in INFO. Alternatively, when funding permits, we may offer paid research positions.

Undergraduate Students at UMD

Undergraduate students can perform an independent study for course credit under CMSC298A, CMSC498A, or CMSC499A. If you want to work with us on a research project, please keep in mind of the following requirements:

  • A commitment to work for at least 6 hours per week (except midterms and finals weeks) for at least one entire semester
  • Meet weekly to report and discuss research progress
  • Be willing to work with other undergraduate students and potentially Ph.D. students as a team
